View-Through House

Refurbishing a protected structure demands both an appreciation of its history and the foresight to imagine its future.

For our client in Dublin 6, we completely upgraded this mid-terrace house and added an extension to create a family home for the 21st century.

Working with the original footprint, we readapted the layout, delivering a utility room and toilet at ground level. An extra bedroom and bathroom transformed the upstairs adding significantly more storage.

Inspired by our city-centre location, a rear reception room now opens up to allow glimpses of the surrounding Victorian streetscape. Meanwhile, bi-folding doors and a new continuous wooden floor connect the front reception rooms. An original shaker-style kitchen sets the mood for the house with clear lines and contrasting finishes, creating a good space for all to chat, relax, and play. Expansive crill-style windows at the back draw the garden in towards the home, helping create a warm, yet spacious feel.

Combining our architecture and interiors expertise, we worked with both our client and the house itself to conserve its architectural fabric and deliver on its contemporary potential.
